EXCLUSIVE: 1987 Ming Court Affair - SARAWAK

1987 Ming Court Affair

This political crisis already started brewing when Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Ya'kub was the Governor of Sarawak/Yang di-Pertua Negara of Sarawak (1981-1985)

He criticized his nephew (YB Pehin Sri Dr. Abdul Taib Mahmud) in a speech at a ceremony of opening of the Bintulu port in 1983.

In 1985, Rahman Ya'kub was involved in a bitter dispute with his nephew, Abdul Taib Mahmud over allocation rights.

In 1987, Rahman Ya'kub formed a new party named Parti Persatuan Rakyat Malaysia Sarawak (PERMAS) in order to challenge Taib Mahmud at the polls. He also formed an alliance with Sarawak Dayak People's Party (PBDS) in order to unseat Taib Mahmud.

In March 1987, 27 of the 48 state assemblymen suddenly directed their support to Rahman Ya'kub while calling Taib Mahmud to resign as a chief minister. Among the defectors were Taib's 4 cabinet ministers and 3 assistant ministers.

A war of accusations on timber concessionaires then broke out between Rahman Ya'kub and Taib Mahmud. Taib Mahmud revoked 30 timber licenses held by his defectors and Rahman's clients. Taib then accused Rahman for awarding 1.25 million hectares of logging concessions worth RM 22.5 billion to Rahman himself and his relatives. Rahman Ya'kub, in return, revealed a list of timber concessions covering 1.6 million hectares held by Taib's clients and family.

Despite the unsuccessful attempt at the 1987 Sarawak state election, Rahman continued his struggle with his allies, Sarawak Dayak People's Party against Taib's led Sarawak Barisan Nasional until 1991 Sarawak state election when Taib's coalition won an overwhelming majority of 49 out of 56 seats in the state assembly

Another interesting character must be Datuk Justin Jinggut, a former SNAP vice president who is now actively promoting himself to be the PKR supremo in Sarawak.

Interestingly Justin Jinggut is Norlia Tun Abdul Rahman's husband. Now, who is Justin Jinggut again?

"I believe the first double-frogged politician was “born” in Sarawak. It was in Sarawak where this culture of double-frogging began when Ulu Rajang MP Justine Jinggut elected unopposed on a SNAP ticket in the 1982 parliamentary election defected to Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) in 1983.

In 1986, he contested on a PBDS ticket and won with a big majority. He leapfrogged back to SNAP before 1987. In 1990 he stood again on a SNAP ticket and was soundly defeated by Billy Abit Joo of PBDS." - The Broken Shield

EXCLUSIVE: (1991) DATUK DR. JEFFREY KITINGAN ditahan ISA

(1991) Dr. Jeffrey G Kitingan ditahan ISA

Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan is the Chairman of STAR Sabah and State Assemblymen for N33, Bingkor, Sabah.
He also contested in P180, Keningau and garnering 11900 strong votes

GOD is watching!

Ogos 1963

(NOTA: PENAHANAN DI BAWAH ISA OLEH KUALA LUMPUR TELAH MEMPROMOSI SATU BENTUK TERROR (terrorist act) KEPADA RAKYAT SABAH AGAR TUNDUK KEPADA KUALA LUMPUR SEPENUHNYA)

EXCLUSIVE: (1986 – 1994) Kejatuhan Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS)

(1986 – 1994) Kejatuhan Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS)

(ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4_hTItpHr4&feature=youtu.be).

(Nota: RUSUHAN DI KOTA KINABALU TELAH DIREKA KHAS OLEH KUALA LUMPUR KERANA PARTI BERJAYA YANG DITAJA KALAH TERUK DALAM PRU)

BURIAL & BURNING OF IBAN & BORNEON LANGUAGE BOOKS BY MALAYAN GOVERNMENT

HISTORY

"MALAY-NISATION" OF SARAWAK LANGUAGES -1965, 1977

BURIAL & BURNING OF IBAN & BORNEON LANGUAGE BOOKS BY MALAYAN GOVERNMENT

The UMNO Government on the formation of Malaysia wasted no time in tearing up the whole Malaysia Agreement by proceeding to exert its central authority over Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.

This was strongly opposed by Singapore which led to its leaving the federation in 1965.

Kuala Lumpur 's attempt to “Malayanise” Sabah and Sarawak instead of abiding by its promise to “Borneonise” was also met with strong resistance by their respective chief ministers.

But it was not strong enough and the Malayans got their way by pushing aside those who opposed them.

This then saw the stepped up Malayanisation of Sabah and Sarawak government public service and education system.

Local languages became a casualty.

The replacement of the Borneo Literature Bureau also saw all Sarawak school text books replaced with sanitized Malayan text books.

In 1965 the language issue was one of the issues which Chief Minister Stephen Kalong Ningkan had strong disagreements with the new Kuala Lumpur colonial masters. He fought them over the continued use of English as the teaching medium which he saw as advantageous for students going overseas for higher education.

He resistance against attempts by the UMNO government to take control of Sarawak led to his dismissal.

According to the book "Media & Nation Building: How the Iban became Malaysian" by John Postill, page 59.

"Soon after Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Malaysia's language planning and development agency, took over the Borneo Literature Bureau in 1977, they had all the books in Iban and other Bornean languages buried.

Shortly afterwards, the mass media grave was discovered by a reader who rescued some of the books. To prevent future finds, my informants allege that the new cultural authorities resorted to a traditional agricultural practice known as “open burning.”

If this is true, what in the 1960s had been a modest literary boom, ended up feeding a bonfire."

In Sarawak this saw local languages totally ignored or sidelined without much protest even from the Ibans.

PRESS STATEMENT: “EPU Report Re-Affirms Chronic Poverty in Sabah” - DATUK DR. JEFFREY KITINGAN

DATUK DR. JEFFREY KITINGAN PRESS STATEMENT - 12.11.2013

“EPU Report Re-Affirms Chronic Poverty in Sabah–Dr.Jeffrey”

Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan is the Chairman of STAR Sabah and State Assemblymen for N33, Bingkor, Sabah.
He also contested in P180, Keningau and garnering 11900 strong votes

Kota Kinabalu: “The recent disclosures of the poverty and abject poverty figures for Sabah, Sarawak and the nation by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the PM’s Department clearly contradicts the rosy picture painted by the Sabah government on the alleviation of poverty in Sabah" said DatukDr. Jeffrey Kitingan, STAR Sabah Chief, commenting on the poverty levels in Sabah.

According to EPU figures, Sabah had 53.5% of the abject poor households in the nation while Sarawak accounted for 11.4%. In the poor household category, Sabah had 39.3% while Sarawak had 11.7%.

Whatever the cutoff points in the definition of the abject poor and poor categories and the number of households involved, the percentages reveal glaring failures of the federal and Sabah governments in resolving the poverty problems in Sabah.

The efforts of the Sabah government in reducing poverty levels in Sabah are poor and miserable compared to the efforts of the Sarawak government, if the numbers of the Prime Minister’s Department are relied upon.

Yet, the Sabah government has been boasting that they have done a good job in reducing poverty in Sabah.

In truth, in the villages and even in urban and suburban areas of Sabah, one only needs to see and ask casually of the poverty levels and it will not be surprising that there are more than 8,457 abject poor households and 42,400 poor households. The real numbers will probably be 5 to 10 times more.

The irony of it all that while Sabah and Sarawak are the poorest in Malaysia, they are the two (2) biggest oil and gas producers and contributed about RM18 billion and RM45 billion respectively to Petronas and the federal government in 2012.

On their part, Sabah only received about RM941 million and Sarawak RM2.37 billion for their 5% share.

As a figurative comparison to totally resolve the 8,457 and 1,801 households in Sabah and Sarawak, it will only cost a one-off sum of RM820.64 million.

This is derived by giving each household the equivalent of RM80,000 comprising a house costing RM40,000 and another RM40,000 in special agricultural grant to develop their own 15 acre plot of land.

Assuming a RM300 monthly return on each acre of their agriculture, they will be each getting RM4,500 per month in household income, higher than most university graduates’ income.

What is RM820 million compared to the RM63 billion of oil and gas “stolen”annually from Sabah and Sarawak?

../2-

-2-

On a more serious note, the Sabah government should take immediate steps to look into and help solve the poverty problems of these 8,457 and 42,400 households.

One of the most immediate steps that can be taken by the Sabah government is to seek an immediate increase of the oil payment from 5% to 20% from Petronas and the federal government which will bring Sabah an additional revenue of RM2,823.75 billion based on 2012 figures given by the Sabah government.

This 20% is not wishful thinking as it has even been declared by the Chief Minister that the government will be seeking a review of the oil payment. Unless of course, this is an empty promise and election gimmick given during the run-up the GE-13.

And the Sabah coffers will be further increased with the return of the 40% net revenue collected by the federal government from Sabah as provided under the Tenth Schedule of the Federal Constitution.
