Pairin denies likening BN leaders to ‘buffaloes led by the nose’

PENAMPANG: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan has categorically denied an allegation that he had described Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders as ‘kerbau dicucuk hidung’ (buffaloes led by the nose) to constituents in Tambunan.

The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President was upset by the allegation which was posted on Facebook two days ago.

“I was quoted as saying it during a speech in Tambunan but I don’t know where this was alleged to have happened,” Pairin told reporters at the PBS headquarters here on Friday.

He was referring to the posting on the “1 Suara Sabah” Facebook page which claimed Pairin had said: “Rakyat Tambunan dah pintar-pintar dan pandai buat pilihan masing-masing… Kalau rakyat Tambunan masih perlukan khidmat saya, teruskan mengundi/menyokong saya tapi kalau tdidak pun tidak apalah… sebab kami pemimpin yang ada dalam BN sekarang ni pun seperti kerbau dicucuk hidung sudah… Jadi kalau mahu undi pembangkang pun saya tidak larang tapi undilah parti tempatan”.

However, Pairin contended that what was posted in Facebook by 1 Suara Sabah was a blatant lie aimed at undermining his loyalty and support to Barisan Nasional under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman.

Pairin asserted that he had always mentioned in his speeches of his firm stand that the rakyat should give their full support to BN and its candidates.

“I have never said that we in BN are akin to ‘kerbau dicucuk hidung’ and told the rakyat to vote for the opposition,” the Infrastructure Development Minister said.

He reiterated his support for Najib by saying that the Prime Minister has a clear vision which clearly reflected his concerns for the people in Malaysia especially in Sabah and Sarawak.

“Under Najib’s leadership, we can see numerous efforts taken to address the problems and needs of the people in the two east Malaysian states,” Pairin said adding that Najib never tired of going down to the ground and meeting the people so that he can listen to their problems, suggestions, criticism and opinions.

And he has taken steps to transform the country and government through the various laboratories spearheaded by PEMANDU, Pairin said adding that those participating in these laboratories included the private sector whose opinions and feedback are needed to find solutions to problems affecting the people.

“This means that the Prime Minister and the BN government are really concerned about the people and have the desire to improve the living standards of people in Sabah and Sarawak.

“I have ensured that all the programs are implemented successfully as I can see that the Prime Minister’s efforts in the implementation of the programs are done with sincerity. I believe that the current BN leadership has the same noble intention like PBS.

“This is why I have no hesitation to say here that the rakyat should evaluate the current BN leadership wisely… look at the Prime Minister and BN’s vision and give support to all the good efforts which are aimed at improving the economy of both Sabah and Sarawak,” he stressed.

According to Pairin, the Opposition has its own method as well as agenda through which they hope to get the people’s support and this included making attractive promises.

“But through my experience, the opposition is not to be trusted… it is not as if we do not know who the opposition is as they have always been showing that they are not sincere and some of them are involved in efforts to spoil and discredit the state.

“Then there are those who tell people in Sabah not to support BN but say the exact opposite when they are in Sarawak. This is just one of the examples to show that the opposition is not sincere and does not have real principles or a firm stand,” Pairin said.

It is because of all this that the rakyat should continue to support BN and its current leadership as they have shown just how concerned they are for the rakyat’s welfare, he stressed.
