EXCLUSIVE: UN ASSESSMENT TEAM IN KUCHING - Thousands defy the government's "No Assemblies" order - LINA SOO

UN ASSESSMENT TEAM IN KUCHING
Thousands defy the government's "No Assemblies" order:
source: Spore Straits Times, first week of Sep 1963

A crowd of about 5,000 lining the road four deep, from Kuching airport to Aurora Hotel shouted slogans and raised clenched fists and posters and placards some reading "We Want Independence Not Malaysia".

Other placards were: Stop Mass Arrest and Oppression, We Don't Want to Recognize London Talks, Plebescite Is The Only Fair Way To Ascertain Wishes Of The People.

Yet the Assessment reported "LITTLE EVIDENCE OF ARTICULATE AND ORGANIZED OPPOSITION TO THE FEDERATION". In 10 days, all over and done in 10 days to whitewash the whole operation, Malaysia came into being on 16 Sep 1963.

The anti-Msia fighters paid a heavy price. Thousands were arrested, tortured and detained without trial for many many years. Some died in detention. Young Sarawakians in their teens and youth.

Today these survivors, throughout Sarawak, in their seventies are still being held in condemnation by some. Such is the power of the British propaganda killing machine. In cahoots with Malaya and US.

UNITED BORNEO FRONT: Perkasa IRRELEVANCE in Sarawak, OPPORTUNE TIME for Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Sarawak (PKMS)

Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Sarawak (PKMS)

Perkasa irrelevanness, apartheid-like mindset and secret Malayan economic agenda

Questions still hang over Perkasa and its chapter in Sarawak. While its leadership claimed that it has existed in the state for five years, the Registrar of Societies revealed that there is no Perkasa chapter in Sarawak. However, the presence of Perkasa might still be felt as it might exist in the dormant state just like certain quarters who claim to be "Umno-Sarawak". These two racial and religious threat to Sarawak just slithers like a snake and waiting for the opportune time to make its presence official if Sarawakian doesn't take stern action like they always do in the past, today and in the near future.

A Sarawakian business woman described Perkasa as an “extremist Malay organisation for Malays in Malaya”, saying the organisation’s push was purely for more business and economic equity.

“Their intention to come to Sarawak is to open the way for Malays from Malaya to do business in the state. This is just like what they did in Sabah.

“It’s not about religion. It is more about giving Malays from Malaya [economic] superiority. Religion is just a way for them to convince the Malays,” she told theantdaily.

The business woman, who declined to be identified, has interests in the oil and gas industry and revealed that her company’s repeated bids for downstream projects were rejected because of her Sarawakian roots despite being a Malay (Sarawak Malay).

She claimed that Perkasa had deep connections in the industry and decision-making bodies such as Petronas’ Vendor Development Programme, thus enabling their “cronies” to grab lucrative contracts.

She added that Perkasa members in Malaya did not consider Sarawakian Malays as true Malays in their eyes and were discriminatory against Sarawakian companies like hers. This incident and prejudices aren't abnormal since even the political parties in the government (BN coalition) and Pakatan Rakyat also have this apartheid-like mindset towards their counter-part in Sarawak.

Persatuan Kebangsann Melayu Sarawak opportune time

In Sarawak, currently, the only Malay association actively represents Sarawak Malays in making their views heard is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB). There is Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Sarawak which exists even before the Malaysia federation formation in 1963. It must be noted that PKMS have been officially established on 10 October 1939 even before the Japanese invasion (1941-1945) and Sarawak colonization by the British Empire (1946-1963). The founder of PKMS at that time is well educated Sarawakian Malays.

During cession of Sarawak into British Empire through trickery and manipulation on 1946, Sarawak loses its independence after 100 years of being a sovereign state under White Rajah of Sarawak administration. PKMS is the strongest union which is against the cession of Sarawak into British Empire which subsequently losing its independent status. Anti-cession movement from 1946-1951 by PKMS is well known throughout Sarawak as they strike to restore the Brooke monarchy and Sarawak independent.

However, since that legendary opposition against mighty colonialist empire, PKMS have become dormant and Sarawakian Malay today is in doubt whether it is still active. However, with the current political, social and religious scenario in Sarawak, PKMS should have made a stand with all Sarawakian in arms and take this opportune time to thwart any Malaya Agenda which would also be a losing ground for Sarawakian Malay as well. Being tricked and given a sweet promise here and there for the interests of hidden and manipulative Malaya Agenda should become a common sense already for Sarawakian to detect in first sight after 50 years of Sarawak neo-colonization by Malayan parties and stooges.

Thus, by associating themselves (PKMS) with the fellow Sarawakian and fighting for Sarawakian cause as they did in the past, and by playing their historical card properly, it wouldn't take long for PKMS to revive and safeguarding the interest of Sarawakian and Sarawakian Malay in particular. Borneo Agenda and United Borneo Front seem to be the right vehicles for them to accelerate PKMS revival and resurface again with strong stand, Sarawak for Sarawakian!

Plans should be made by taking how Sarawak and the rest of the region will be in thirty years' time into consideration. If a system is not founded on a strong belief, but only on successful political maneuvers, those successful political maneuvers might turn upside down in a while.

Message to the religious extremist - RAJAH RAQAFLUZ

God does not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you from your homes, or from being just towards them. God loves those who are just.
(Qur'an, 60:8)

Only argue with the People of the Book in the kindest way – except in the case of those of them who do wrong — saying, "We believe in what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to you. Our God and your God are one and we submit to Him."
(Qur'an, 29:46)

UNITED NATIONS ASSESSMENT - September 1963 - LINA SOO

Lina Soo is a candidate for State Reform Party (STAR) for P196 Stampin, Sarawak in GE-13 and the author of popular book "Sarawak the Real Deal"

UNITED NATIONS ASSESSMENT - September 1963

In August 1963 Malaya, Philippine and Indonesia reached an agreement for UN intervention to determine if Borneo Territories wanted Malaysia and signed the Manila Accord. Instead of a UN-backed referendum which has to be sanctioned by the General Assembly, Britain/Malaya prevented the referendum by getting UN Secretary-U Thant to conduct an assessment.

Meanwhile it was announced that Sep 16 is the new date for Malaysia, and this was resolved in Council Ngeri sitting 1-7 Sep ... before the assessment!

Stephen Yong (SUPP, opposition) in Council Negri said it was rather unusual while agreeing to a term of inquiry to come to this country to announce a date for. One cannot agree to an enquiry and then before the result is known, take a course which might be contrary to its findings. "If you agree to an enquiry the natural thing to do is to wait for the result of the enquiry".

There are newsclips and photos to show that opposition to Malaysia was massive.

Yet the Assessment reported "LITTLE EVIDENCE OF ARTICULATE AND ORGANIZED OPPOSITION TO THE FEDERATION".

In 10 days, all over and done in 10 days to whitewash the whole operation, Malaysia into being on 16 September 1963.

Repression by armed force of the colonial government towards the people of Sarawak who objected was horrendous. The dark and horrifying secret remains to this day, many carried it to their graves.

Judging SARAWAK Fairly - RAJAH RAQAFLUZ

Rajah Raqafluz (Pen name) is the admin for "STAR TODAY".

Sarawak is unarguably one of the most important countries in Malaysia federation aside from Sabah and Malaya with Singapore being "ejected" by Malaya from the Malaysia federation without the consent of Sarawak and Sabah. With the fact that it has adopted the spirit of democracy and with its modern conception of religious freedom and racial harmony, it enjoys an influential position, not only in the Malaysia federation, but in a broad swath of the South East Asia and even the world and that position makes it valuable not only in the East, but also to the West.

Sarawak has always been a country that faced both East and West and it still maintains that position today due to the experience that it gain through Brooke Era ala British administration despite geographically located in the East.

Those who seek to clearly separate "East mentality" and "West mentality" seek not justice and democracy, but rather to create the misconception and misleading prejudices among Sarawakian. We all know that a desire to rule which does not value people or respect the opinions and beliefs cannot be a just one and, more importantly, that such a desire cannot establish security. It is impossible for it to bring stability, value or have any respect for a territory.

Sarawak's approach is one of supporting what is right even if the majority may not agree with it. Sarawak’s heeding its conscience rather than its interests, acting in the light of what is right rather than adjusting itself to prevailing conditions is a sign that it is a country that can be comfortably trusted by both East and West; it would be wrong to perceive that as a threat.

Meanwhile Sarawak and Sabah are two powerful countries in the region and are natural allies. The fact that the condition arises politically, socially and commercially between Sarawak and Sabah recently and in the past have ever confirmed that fact.

Sarawak has been changing together with the region over the last 176 years since Sarawak nationhood in 1841. What we are looking at is not an antidemocratic approach, but judicial measures within a legal and democratic framework intended to ensure the safety of all Sarawakians.

Although Sarawak humbly has not yet reached the democracy it would like, it is taking major strides toward democratization. The rights and privileges acquired by Sarawakians, whose existence was denied and manipulated 50 years ago since the tricky formation of Malaysia federation due to the oppression by secretive deep- state cliques, are cause for rejoicing for all Sarawakians.

Major improvements have also been made to the rights enjoyed by Malay, Dayak, Chinese, Bidayuh and more respectable various tribes and races in Sarawak either Muslim, Christian, Buddhist citizens. The torture and oppression that used to be inflicted systematically is now almost non-existent. Unsolved homicides are no longer taking place, and efforts are being made to solve those that took place in the past.

Of course there is still much to be done, but the value of the gains cited above is enormous. If the Malaya regime and political stooges remain under the influence of certain prejudiced circles within this process, if it does not treat Sarawak fairly, then it will be making a historic error.

Sarawak is not the friend of one single belief, idea or country: Its perspective is one that embraces all and treats everyone with the same respect. Sarawak wants friendships, not enmities. It knows that its happiness cannot be built on another country’s unhappiness.

More importantly, the spirit acquired during the more than 176-year history of the Sarawak Republic since 1841, a modern and enlightened one devoid of extremism, but open to ideas and on the side of freedom, is of great value to Sarawak and contribution to Malaysia federation and that spirit will lead the way to peace, friendship and brotherhood in the region and throughout the world.

EXPOSE: British carried out large scale arrests of anti-colonisation and anti-Malaysia elements in SARAWAK

PROPAGANDA: The banner pictured above typifi es the anti-Malaysia sentiment during the 60s.

Large scale arrests

Following the Brunei Rebellion in 1962 when AM Azahari launched his attempt to overthrow the Brunei Sultanate, the British carried out large scale arrests of anti-colonisation and anti-Malaysia elements.

According to Liew, the ‘migration’ of the mostly Chinese youths to the Indonesian border was prompted by arrest orders issued by the British to round up suspected communists.

About 700-800 CCO members and supporters slipped across the Sarawak border into Indonesia where they received intensive training in guerilla warfare.

It was this group that formed the core of the communist guerrilla units — Pasukan Rakyat Kalimantan Utara (PARAKU) and Pasukan Gerilya Rakyat Sarawak (PGRS).

Liew recalled joining a group of 30 to Serikin on the border with Indonesia.

“The intensive training included swimming, tree climbing, blindfolded assembly, disassembly of guns and TNT explosive handling.”

In the midst of all this, Tunku Abdul Rahman launched his federation plan to incorporate Singapore, Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah into a single political entity called Malaysia.

“The first operation of the trained members was to lead about 60 guerillas as a show of force to the Cobbold Commission visiting Sibu.

But the plan failed when the guerillas lost their way in the jungle and ran out of food too.”
