MALAYSIA AGREEMENT
Excerpt from BDEP Malaysia by A J Stockwell, pg. 78&78
The Malaysia Agreement was signed in London on 9 July 1963. Neither sovereign, nor even self-governing, strictly speaking North Borneo and Sarawak were not of a status to be parties to the formal agreement.
In fact, the British recognized the presentation importance of ensuring that leaders of indigenous peoples of Borneo participated in the signing ceremony alongside representatives of the British, Malayan and Singapore governments.
Legislation ending British jurisdiction in North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore was enacted at Westminster. It did not provide for the separate independence of the three territories but transferred sovereignty to the new Federation of Malaysia.’
ARTICLE 1 of the Malaysia Agt 1963. It says "Colonies of Sabah & Sarawak" - This means not "freely or independently or voluntarily"...very clear. |
THE SIGNATORIES TO THE MALAYSIA AGREEMENT DID NOT HAVE THE MANDATE FROM THE PEOPLE OF SARAWAK AND CANNOT REPRESENT THE SARAWAK GOVERNMENT TO SIGN AN INTERNATIONAL TREATY.
The signatories were: P E H Pike, T. Jugah, Abang Hj Mustapha, Ling Beng Siew and Abang Hj Openg.
In the Council Negri sitting on 1-7 Sep 1963 which adopted the motion to support the formation of Malaysia, Chan Siaw Hee of SUPP referred to the Malaysia Agreement and asked how could the Sarawak delegation have represented the people when one of the delegates was a defeated candidate.
The elections had just concluded and the new Sarawak government would be formed only on 22 July 1963 with Stephen K Ningkan as Sarawak’s first CM.
The Malaysia Bill surrendering the sovereignty of Sarawak was passed in an almost empty House of Lords in Westminster on 26 July 1962. One lazy Friday afternoon with few British lawmakers, a few yawns, and a whole nation and its peoples were heisted.
The UN Trusteeship Agreement listed by the UN General Assembly as Non-Self-Governing documents Sarawak as "Change of Status" and NOT "Independence", ref my book pg. 120
Independence was a whitewash to make Malaysia formation "legitimate". Read their colonial document on the necessity of granting independence even if only for one day! |
What further proof is needed, that the British betrayed us by giving us to Malaya ... "on a silver platter"
-Lee Kuan Yew-
Reported in the Singapore Straits Times headlines in Sep 1963
July 22 has been just defacto independence, we have self-government but we were not granted independence from Britain. For Britain to give independence to a colony, it must be passed through an Act of Parliament. The Malaysia Bill passed on 22 July 1963 was just a surrender of sovereignty of Sarawak to Malaya disguised as Malaysia
