Sibu 28 August 1963: 3000 riot in Sibu Town, UN team races to safety as mob begins stone attack

Two policemen were injured in an anti-Malaysia riot here this morning.

A mob of 3000 had gathered outside the Methodist Secondary School, where the UN team fact-finding mission was to hear evidence. 

They surged across the school padang from Quensway Road as the UN cars arrived. Stones were thrown.

Police retreated as far as the building. Then they began to use batons. Two warning shots were fired.
