“Why No Federal Flood Aid for Sabahans” - DATUK DR. JEFFREY KITINGAN

Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan is the Chairman of STAR Sabah and State Assemblymen for N33, Bingkor, Sabah.
He also contested in P180, Keningau garnering 11900 strong votes

PRESS STATEMENT-09.12-2013

“Why No Federal Flood Aid for Sabahans–Dr.Jeffrey”
----------------------------------------------------------------

Kota Kinabalu: “The Prime Minister should abandon and dismantle his 1-Malaysia policy and stop hoodwinking Sabahans with his hollow, rhetoric and meaningless statements appreciating Sabah and Sarawak’s support for Umno/BN in the recently GE-13” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, STAR Sabah Chief in response to the announcement that flood victims in the East Coast of the Peninsula will be given a RM500 flood aid.

While not detracting that flood aid should be given to victims in the Peninsula, the PM needs to re-examine and formulate consistent and wholesome policies and stop making impromptu decisions.

It was clear that part of the decision taken to give impromptu flood aid was because of the on-going Umno general assembly and the raising of the flood situation in Kuantan by the MP concerned who happened to be from the opposition.

“I am quite sure that if that opposition MP’s coalition had been in power, it would not have been necessary to raise the question in Parliament and aid extended unlike the ruling Umno/BN government where the Deputy PM has had to apologize for the delay in aid” added Dr. Jeffrey.

If the Prime Minister is serious with his national re-conciliation policy and to be a PM for all Malaysians which he is trying to portray outside his Umno circles, the flood aid should be extended to all Malaysians including in Sabah and Sarawak.

The PM cum Finance Minister must remember that the funds at his disposal are the rakyat’s money and the ruling government is only the trustee guardian. The money does not belong to Umno or the BN just like some Umno delegates seem to think when suggesting that BR1M should only be given to Umno/BN supporters and not the opposition.

For a fact, the majority of taxpayers are the non-Malays and the rakyat’s money ought to be spent wisely and not for political mileage. It is wrong for the Umno/BN leaders give aid and having reporters on hand to cover the cheap publicity stunt with BN flags displayed all over the place as if the aid was being given by Umno/BN and not using the rakyat’s money.

The federal government need to ensure fairness in their guardianship distribution of the rakyat’s money and extend the flood aid to Sabahans and Sarawakians. The call by a Sarawak BN elected representative is a timely reminder that BN also consists of Sabah and Sarawak parties and it also reflects the mood and feelings of Sabahans and Sarawakians.

As it is, the voices clamoring for Sabah and Sarawak to leave Malaysia is growing stronger and stronger by the day.

The continued mistreatment and marginalization of Sabah and Sarawak by the PM and the federal government is just adding fuel to the fire of separation.

Following the footsteps of the unequal hike in the electricity tariffs, the giving of flood aid to the Peninsula and not to Sabah and Sarawak is just but another one of the unfair treatment of Sabahans and Sarawakians and lending credence and indirect support to the calls for separation from Malaysia.

If the federal government continues with the lopsided policies and ignore Sabah and Sarawak, the time will soon come to Malaysia to comprise of only the Peninsula without Sabah and Sarawak or the reversion back to the Federation of Malaya or Persekutuan Tanah Melayu which appears to be the basis of the Umno and right-wing calls for“1-Melayu”.

Or perhaps the federal government should seriously consider allowing Sabah and Sarawak to part ways just like Singapore in 1965 and focus on the “1-Melayu” concept in the Peninsula.

No Party in power has any money of their own - DR. PATAU RUBIS

State Reform Party, Sarawak (STAR) chairman Dr Patau Rubis

No Party in power has any money of their own, but it actually was from the members and sponsors as well as public Consolidated fund which they siphoned through various channels including having paid civil servants to work for their political Agenda.

Do BN has the money for BRIM1, BRIM2 or BRIM3? Any of the BN parties have money to dole out?

If they have they should give it all out to their members first instead of giving out "Ali baba" goodies through the Government system.

So unless our members and supporters have the money, STAR will continue to depend on others good will to keep up the struggle till enough of our supporters reached the level of the present urban young and Chinese voters who can demand that the system of Governance must change or just throw them out starting in Sarawak and Sabah for any real change to occur.

Changing Malaysia through capturing Putrajaya will remain a "too big" an agenda because PR component parties (PKR, PAS, DAP) are too arrogant to work well with other smaller parties such as STAR, SWP, PBDS Baru etc., unlike BN which is willing to work well with PBB, PRS, SPDP, SUPP etc. The best chances have now gone with the past election of PRU12 and PRU13.

JOINT MEMORANDUM TO UNITED NATIONS 1962 - LINA SOO

Pic: the flag of the proposed Borneo federation of Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah

JOINT MEMORANDUM TO UNITED NATIONS 1962

by: Peoples’ Party of Brunei/Sarawak United Peoples’ Party/United National Pasuk Memonggon Party of Sabah

Addressed to: The Secretary-General, United Nations Organization, New York.

We the undersigned … a joint memorandum with a view to having it placed before the Committee on Colonies of the UN … with a view to seeking the intervention of the UN in the proposed transfer of sovereignty in British North Borneo and Sarawak by the United Kingdom to the proposed Federation of Malaysia without the exercise of the right of self-determination by the peoples in these territories, in contravention to the spirit and letter of the Declaration of the UN and the Resolution 1514 (XV) of the UN General Assembly of the 14th December 1960 …

5. In 1958 the colonial government of Sarawak and Sabah … called for closer association of the territories of Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei with a view to forming a federation of these territories …

6. On 27th May 1961, the PM of the Federation of Malaya Tengku Abdul Rahman … proposed the foramtino of the MSCC the pace of and the line taken by this committee was set or influenced by the representative of the governments of Singapore and Malaya …

9. IN view of the decision of the British Government and the Colonial governments of Sarawak and Sabah were bound to support the formation of Malaysia and had utilised every propaganda machine at their disposal to put the proposal in the most favourable light. In Sarawak and elsewhere charges were indiscriminately made of the people who were against Malaysia as Communists, a description equivalent to bandits or foreign agents.

12. over 112,000 signatures of adult persons opposing the Malaysia Plan were collected and forwarded to the Commission … in term of the total population (750,000), 55% of whom are not adults, the persons against Malaysia are substantially large.

13. The assessment of the Commisson was that one third of the population strongly favoured realisation of Malaysia without condition, one third favoured it with condition and safeguards and the rest against. This assessment was totally wrong and could not be supported by facts and could not be accepted by independent impartial observers.

16. The findings of the Committee set up by H.M. the Sultan of Brunei was that the overwhelming majority of the people in the State is against the federation of Malaysia.

18. The signatories to this memorandum appeal to the UN and urged that: (1) the UN should … intervene in the proposed transfer of sovereignty in Sarawak and Sabah on the ground that such a transfer is a denial to the peoples in these territories of their right to self determination and of their right to complete independence

(2) Alternative that a plebiscite organized and conducted by UN be held before such transfer of sovereignty

(3) In accordance with the peoples’ freely expressed will and desire and our belief, a federation of Union of the three Borneo territories viz Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei be brought about with his Highness the Sultan of Brunei as the Constitutional Head of such Federation or Union.

Dated this 9th September 1962.
