STAR SARAWAK: ABOLISH SARAWAK IMMIGRATION AUTONOMY? - LINA SOO
ABOLISH SARAWAK IMMIGRATION AUTONOMY FOR A PROGRESSIVE SARAWAK AND PROMOTE NATIONAL INTEGRATION
I recently attended a seminar where a Msian professor spoke on Sarawak in Malaysia, 50 years.
Extracts of his arguments:
(1) Immigration controls really to maintain economic protectionism and cronyism in Sarawak ; non-competitive economy
(2) Immigration controls also major barrier to national unity (gives negative impression of all west Msians when reality is very different)
(3) Insufficient foreign workers, Swak needs more unskilled labourers (low-tech, labour-intensive model of development)
(4) Swak urban political-economic elite extremely rich with houses in KL, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, London, Paris, London and beyond … and Swiss, Singapore, Monaco, British Virgin Islands, Jersey, Isle of Man bank accounts
He berated Swakians for voting to keep CM and UMNO in power and ended it with, “Well I would love to be able to stay in Swak, but your immigration controls prohibit that, and it is your loss”.
Ehm ehm ehm. Our loss???
In another vein, a lawyer called for the opposition to be voted into power where they will advocate state rights and national integration.
Integrasi??? Now, I really hate this word …
